The Ruidoso Police Department accepts applications for the position of Police Officer, both certified and non-certified, on a continual basis. You can now apply online by clicking on the job title you are interested in and clicking on the "Apply" button. If this is the first time you are applying using the Village of Ruidoso online job application process, you will need to create an account and select a Username and Password. Once everything is filled out the application can be saved and used to apply for more than one job opening.   • Officer 1 – 1 year experience/100 hours advanced training – $22.00/hr.

  • Officer 2 – 2 years experience/200 hours advanced training - $23.32/hr.

  • Officer 3 – 3 years. Experience/300 hours advanced training - $24.95/hr.

  • Officer 4 – 4 years. Experience/400 hours advanced training - $26.95/hr.

  • Officer 5 – 5 years experience/500 hours advanced training - $29.37/hr.

Lateral Officer

Selection Process:

Application: Complete the online application. Be detailed and honest in your application.

Panel Interview: You will have an oral board interview in front of a panel of RPD Officers, who will ask you questions about yourself, your background, and your reasons for wanting to join the RPD.

VSA (Voice Stress Analysis): Once you pass the panel interview, your recruiter will contact you and schedule you for a VSA examination.

Background: The background investigation will be completed for those who successfully pass the Panel Interview.

Chief’s Interview: Upon successful completion of the background investigation, you will be scheduled for an interview with the Chief of Police.

Uncertified Officer

Process

Application: Complete the online application. Be detailed and honest in your application.

Written Exam: The written test is an assessment of reading comprehension, grammar, and mathematics.

Physical Exam: After the application has been submitted, an RPD recruiter will contact you. The recruiter will go over your application with you, then schedule the physical fitness test and written test in Ruidoso. The standards for the physical fitness test are listed below.

  • 1.5-mile run – Above 6000 ft elevation. 15:54 min, Below 6000 ft elevation. 15:14 min

  • 300-meter sprint – 71 sec.

  • Push-ups – 15 reps minimum in 1 min

  • Sit-ups – 27 reps minimum in 1 min

Panel interview: After successfully passing the written test and the physical assessment, you will have an oral board interview in front of a panel of RPD Officers, who will ask you questions about yourself, your background, and your reasons for wanting to join the RPD.

Background Investigation: The background investigation will be completed for those who successfully pass the Panel Interview.

VSA (Voice Stress Analysis): Once you pass the physical fitness and written tests, the recruiter will contact you and schedule you for a polygraph examination.

Psychological Medical Screening: The next steps in the process, are the psychological evaluation and medical screening. If you successfully pass the psychological evaluation, you will receive a conditional offer of employment, based on successfully passing the medical screening and Chief’s Selection.

Chief’s Selection: At the end of the selection process, the Chief of Police evaluates all of the application packets of those who successfully pass through the application process, and the Chief selects the top candidates for the available positions.
